Flowers and Produce – Bloom 2011

By In Articles, Photographs
A day spent in Dublin, specifically at the garden/flower/food show that is Bloom [Twitter: Bloom 2011]. The weather was gloriously hot, the sorbet deliciously refreshing, the local cheeses creamy and so morish, the beers delicious and the company highly entertaining. Thanks to Ailbhe (‘did you ever make it to Newcastle?’) and Jeanne (‘my photos are better than your photos’) for suffering me for the day and to Bord Bia for taking us out there.

Managed to take loads of photos; here are is a mixed selection, more on flickr. Brought some of this Knockdrinna cheese back with me, as dished out by quality cheese maker Helen Finnegan; it was served to the Queen apparently during her state visit. Well nice it was too… Florrie Purcell of the Scullery who insisted we sampled her Christmas Pudding. I must say it was superb and, with a buyer from Selfridges showing interest, we can only hope it makes it to the UK! The Scullery also produces various relishes and sauces too. Also two products that were so delicious they didn’t make it back to Blighty. From a small West Cork farm, Alan and Valerie Kimpton produce the Glenilenfarm range with superbly packaged yoghurts, Cheesecakes and other dairy foods. Delicious and available in the UK, somewhere. Well worth hunting down.
