Cycling In Tuscany

By In Photographs
What a fantastic experience – a few days in Tuscany thanks to travel experts G Adventures – one of which involved a long cycle ride around the countryside. Some steepish hills, gravel canal-side paths, vines and vineyard vistas, lakeside fishermen, woodland paths and a most welcome local food lunch at the conclusion. Actually it wasn’t the end, after lunch, the die-hards carried on the final 8 kilometres or so. Fired no doubt by the refreshing qualities of a spritzy Orvieto this final section, sans-camera, was undertaken at quite a pace. Invigorating.

G Adventures offer this excellent cycle ride as part of their Living Local tour and a Tuscany Cycle Tour. See also the lovely photos of the trip on the Beer and Beans travel blog, written/snapped by the lovely American duo Beth & Randy.

“In a country famed for its extensive (not to mention delicious) culinary traditions, Tuscany is top dog. And what better way to work up an appetite for all those gastronomic delights than by taking a leisurely ride through some of the most gorgeous countryside you’ll find anywhere? On this trip, you’ll explore the gently rolling hills and tiny villages of this idyllic patch of Europe from the seat of a bike, then dig in to expertly prepared meals and flavourful wines drawn from the land you’ve spent all day traversing. If you really are what you eat, expect to become exquisite.” G Adventures.

Fantastic pics! Reminds me of the bicycle tour I did in the Loire (the one you missed!)If you love wine country, you should do a bicycle tour, the best way to see it all.

There was talk of a repeat of the Loire cycling thang… nothing came of it sadly.
